Personal Information

Cristian Secchi was born on February 4th, 1975. He graduated in computer science engineering, with majors in robotics and automation, at the University of Bologna (I) on July 2000. In the same year he spent three months at the Control Lab of the Delft University of Technology in quality of visiting scientist working with the Professor Stefano Stramigioli on geometric grasping and teleoperation.
On March 2001 he began his PhD on Information Engineering at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia under the supervision of Prof. Cesare Fantuzzi.
From December 2001 to March 2002 he was at the Control Lab of the University of Twente working with Prof. Stefano Stramigioli in the field of discrete port-Hamiltonian systems and haptics.
On April 20th, 2004 he got the PhD degree by defending his thesis titled “Control of Interactive Robotic Interfaces: a port-Hamiltonian approach”. On March 2006 he has been selected as one of the three finalists of the 5th Edition of the EURON Georges Giralt Award for the best PhD thesis in Europe.
Since January 18th, 2005 he is with the Department of Sciences and Methods of Engineering of the school of Engineering of Reggio Emilia, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia first as a  researcher and then, since November 2014, as an Associate Professor.

He participated to the CROW (Coordination of AGVs in Automatic Warehouses) project that  has been selected as one of the 6finalists for the 2010 EUROP/EURON Technology Transfer Award for the best Technology transfer project in Europe.

He is co-author of the book “Control of Interactive Robotic Interfaces: a port-Hamiltonian approach” published by Springer in 2007.

I have been co-chair of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Technical Committee on Telerobotics for 2007 to 2012. I have been Associate Editor for the Conference Editorial Boards of IROS2012, ICRA2013 and LHMNLC2012. I have been a guest Editor for the Special Issue on Design and Control Methodologies in Telerobotics, published on Elsevier Mechatronics in October 2010 and for the Special Issue on Lagrangian and Hamiltonian Methods in Nonlinear Control, published on the European Journal of Control on December 2013. I served as Associate Editor of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Magazine from January 2005 to December 2008 and as an Associate Editor of the IROS2012, ICRA 2013 and ICRA15 Conference Editorial Boards. Since September 2012 I am serving as an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Robotics.
